Teya Ryan is General Manager and Executive Vice President of CNN in the US. She has been on the staff of CNN since 1990 when she joined as executive producer of the CNN Environment Unit.
She was formerly Executive Vice President of CNN Headline News and responsible for its relaunch in 2002. Before that she was head of Domestic Networks for the CNN News Group. Ms Ryan has also served as Executive Vice President of CNNfn, the financial network and was also was Executive Producer and creator of the highly popular TalkBack Live, CNN's daily interactive, live talk show.
Before joining CNN, Ms Ryan was Senior Producer of the Science and Society Unit at KCET-TV in Los Angeles. During her six years at the public television station, she produced award-winning programs on human physiology, including The Time of Our Lives, a four-part series about the brain, as well as the documentaries Our Ocean at Risk; Art Off the Wall; and Spare the Rod: The Politics of Child Abuse.
She has received many awards for her work, including a 1994 National News Emmy Award for In Nature's Wake; a 1993 CableACE Award for a 90-minute Earth Summit special; and several American Women In Radio and Television awards. Ms Ryan has a bachelor's degree in social science from the University of California at Berkeley.
