Velma Grover is an adjunct professor at York University (at Faculty of Environmental Studies) and at McMaster University (Center for Engineering and Public Policy) where she offers courses on water and waste management, program and policy implementation, green engineering and public policy, international governance and sustainability.
Just a couple of decades ago, when she was gazing into the crystal ball trying to determine the path for her further studies and career a few things happened: there was an epidemic of plague followed by Dengue fever in India linked to mismanagement of waste and she came across Megatrends by John Naisbitt. This inspired her to study sustainable development and focus on a holistic approach to environmental issues. Getting a masters in environmental management and a PhD started her journey into the field of environment and sustainable development. Since then, she has worked with environmental NGOs, consulting firms, and international organizations in the field of solid waste and water management in both developing as well as developed world. She would like to continue this journey into establishing linkages between human action, environment and sustainability and she believes that LEAD will offer a great opportunity to learn new skills and form new networks with like-minded colleagues.
She has a Doctorate in Waste Management and a Masters in Environmental Management from the University of London, Wye, UK, as well as a certificate in International Environmental Law from Wye College, University of London, Wye, U.K.
