Thomas Makhambera works with the Forestry Department in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Environment. Currently, he is working as the Assistant Director of Forestry, responsible for Forestry Regulation and Quality Control. His main day to day work includes forest protection, in form of forest law enforcement, reviews of forest policy and other legal documents in within the Forest Department. He is also involved in drafting documents necessary for engaging the private sector and other interested parties in the management, utilization and trade in forest resources and products from Government owned Plantations and Natural Forests. He is also involved in monitoring compliance to regulations and set standards in the management, harvesting and marketing of forest goods and services.

He likes spending his free time in reading newspapers and watching football, news items and films on television. He is also involved in farming but at a small scale.
