Wallace Beaton is employed by Green Communities Canada as a School Travel Planning facilitator in the Ottawa area, working with schools, school boards, municipal officials, and other stakeholders to increase the number of children using active transportation (walking and biking) for the daily journey to school.
His personal interest in environmental, sustainability and development issues dates back many years (in hindsight probably as far back as his adolescence!). Over time it has evolved through professional and voluntary experience with organizations as varied as World University Service of Canada (WUSC), The David Suzuki Foundation, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Climate Action Network Canada and the National Round Table on the Environment & Economy (NRTEE). He has reached a stage in his career where he wishes to deepen his knowledge and understanding of these inter-related issues as well as expand his skills set. He believes becoming a LEAD fellow is helping him fulfill that objective.
Beaton is married with two children, a member of Ecology Ottawa, immediate past chair of his local community association, and an active choral singer.
