Zhu Xiaojian got her PhD in 1999 at Peking University, and became a lecturer at School of Life Sciences, Peking University in the same year.
Zhu Xiaojian is interested in the ecology of large mammals. With Prof. Pan Wenshi, the world’s leading wild panda experts, as her advisor, she took part in the study of wild giant panda biology since year 1992. She studied the mother-infant interaction, the development of wild giant panda cubs, help other students collecting various kind of data. Since 2002, she took part in the study of wild Asiatic black bears in Sichuan Province.
At school she teaches General Ecology (2002–present), Zoology Lab (2003-2005), Zoology Field Course (1999-2003, 2007-present) and gives lectures in Conservation Biology (2000-present) for undergraduate student at Peking University. She coordinated and gave lectures in the training course “Bears and Large Carnivores: Ecology and Study Techniques†sponsored by Conservation Research Center, Smithsonian Institution and Chinese Wildlife Conservation Association.
