Andrea CRUZ is the current Coordinator of the State Strategies on Biodiversity in the National Commission of the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO). She is responsible of promoting and coordinating States-level implementation activities of the Convention of Biological Diversity.
Before her current position Andrea was an independent consultant for some forest certification agencies. She conducted more than dozen forest evaluations, annual audits and peer reviews in different timber harvest communities, ejidos and private forest lands in Mexico.
Her interests and work experience have focused on the assessment and evaluation of the effects on biodiversity (specially birds) of the human-managed habitats in order to promote ecologically sound management techniques. She is particularly interested in biodiversity conservation issues, sustainable use of and conservation of natural resources.
Andrea is a biologist by training with 15 years experience in Ornithology, with a PhD from the Instituto de EcologÃa, A. C. of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico.
